Oxford professor of international relations Avi Shlaim served in the Israeli army and has never questioned the state's legitimacy. But its merciless assault on Gaza has led him to devastating conclusions.

JERUSALEM â International aid groups lashed out at Israel on Thursday over the war in Gaza, saying that access to civilians in need is poor, relief workers are being hurt and killed, and Israel is woefully neglecting its obligations to Palestinians who are trapped, some among rotting corpses in a nightmarish landscape of deprivation.

In Second Life there is a new Israel, appropriately called SL Israel, which recreates in virtual form aspects of the country, from religious landmarks of Jerusalem such as the Temple Mount, to tourist sites of Tel Aviv. Last week when Israel began launching guided missiles at Hamas targets in Palestine, however, SL Israel became a flashpoint of another kind. As the airstrikes pounded Gaza, so did protesters, teleporting into SL Israel, waving flags.

In the first three days of the Israeli offensive from 28-30 December, editorials and op-eds from five major US papers overwhelmingly adopted the official US and Israeli government talking points on the conflict -- even where this version was clearly contradicted by the legal and historical record, widely available to the public.

Israel's air assault on Gaza began with attacks on the Stripâs main police stations, including one in Rafah's densely populated Junaina neighborhood which left twenty-five officers dead. Over the course of the war, approximately two hundred and fifty civilian policemen would be killed and every major police office damaged or destroyed, according to figures provided by the Ministry of the Interior.

I am a Palestinian from Gaza. I am a journalist. I am a mother. I am a Muslim. This blog is about the trials of raising my children between spaces and identities; displacement and occupation; and everything that entails from potty training to border crossings. My husband is a Palestinian refugee denied his right of return to Palestine, and thus OUR right to family life. Together, we endure a lot, and the personal becomes political. This is our story.

During the fighting in Gaza and in southern Israel, Israeli human rights groups worked together to inform the Israeli public of the impact on civilians, particularly regarding events that were not reported by the media. Each group posted the information at its disposal, which has been verified to its best ability under the circumstances. The data is necessarily limited and should not be taken as a comprehensive picture of the human rights violations currently taking place. Upon the declaration of the cease-fire, we have stopped the daily updates. The organizations will continue to use the Blog to provide information on the war and its consequences.
